* Known-positive sera included a series of convalescent human sera obtained 3 months to 13 years after acute hepatitis E and serial sera from chimpanzees inoculated with hepatitis E virus strains from various geographic regions. Results are presented for sera obtained <6 months after infection and  6 months after infection.
