What is the dosage for Incivek™ (telaprevir)?

UPDATE: As of August 2014 Vertex announced it will discontinue selling Incivek.

According to Vertex, developer of Incivek™, the recommended dose is two 375 mg tablets taken three times daily (approximately every 7-9 hours). Incivek™ should be taken within 30 minutes of a meal or snack that contains about 20 grams of fat. It must always be taken with food.

The reason for the recommendation pertaining to the amount of fat in the food that is eaten is that the systemic exposure to telaprevir was increased by 237% when telaprevir was administered with a standard fat meal (containing 533 kcal and 21 g fat) compared to when it was administered under fasting conditions. In addition, the type of meal significantly affects exposure to telaprevir. When tested against a low-fat meal, systemic exposure to telaprevir was higher when administered with a high-fat meal.

Incivek™ MUST be taken in combination with peginterferon alfa and ribavirin.
